Abstract : Selective Negative Acknowledgement (SNACK) is a novel acknowledgement schemewhich integrates the capabilities of both SACK and NAK. There have been some worksdone in evaluating the performance of SNACK scheme. However, these works have beendone either based on the methodology of the scheme or by considering SNACK as anisolated entity without the operating systems fully involved. It is expected to have acontrolled experimental evaluation of the effectiveness of SNACK by comparing it withwidely used SACK, with the operating systems fully involved, from the perspective ofthe user.esis, we try to compare the effectiveness of SNACK and the widelyused SACK in an experimental manner using a network test-bed, from the perspective ofan application user. he results show that SNACK has no negative effects on tutilization at a low es better utilization of channel bandachieves significantly higher throughput in error prone li s such as satellite and wirelesschannels. It is observed that SNACK is better suited for long delay and highchannels, which makes it more favorable over SACK in similar environments. Due tomany similarities from perspective of network protocols, results of this study are also.............-....,....-...,..tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
