Abstract : VVhile Transport Control Protocol (TCP) works well in a terrestrial environment,modification is necessary to provide good performance in the satellite environment.Space Communication Protocol Standards (SCPS) is a standardized protocol suitedeveloped for space communications. SCPS-TP inherits all the relevant features fromTCP while modifying others according to the convenience of satellite links.TCP's acknowledgement strategy is one of the features that have been modified forSCPS-TP to improve its performance in asymmetric channels. SCPS-TP allows the data-receiver to delay the acknowledgements for a configurable period of time, unlike TCP9srequirement that it should acknowledge at least every other segment. However, there isno set of fixed values specified to set for the acknowledgement timer to achieve maximalperformance output.
