Abstract	:	As modern communication systems increase in complexity, Platform-baseddesign methodology is a viable solution for the challenges of complex system design.Platform-based design advocates system design at a high level, shortening the designtime through reuse of well-characterized modules. Application and architecturalexplorations are key processes within this methodology. This thesis describes theconcept of platform, and platform based design. The broad classification of platformis presented along with a survey of different types of state-of-the-art platforms andtheir design tools.These platforms increasingly cater to the design of next generation mobilemultimedia systems. Software defined Radio (SDR) has emerged as a solution forimplementing such systems.
