Abstract : The primary objective of this thesis is to develop an understanding of thevariation of cylindrical cavity applicator eigenfiequencies versus different materialloadings and to determine the best electromagnetic coupling and efficient heatingmodes to treat silicon wafers, graphite fibers and the magnetic materials. The materialloaded applicator complex eigenfiequencies were first determined numerically byusing the Ansoft HFSS and then were experimentally measured in the laboratory.The electromagnetic mode excitations that were particularly useful in heating theselected materials were identified and analyzed.
