Abstract	:	The purpose of this thesis is to design optimal multirate filter banks and equalizers forDiscrete Wavelet Multitone (DWMT) communications. Multicarrier data transmission isstudied for realistic communication conditions, and filter banks and equalizers aredesigned to mitigate nonideal effects such as intersymbol interference (ISI) andinterchannel interference (ICI) so as to minimize the bit error rate (BER). The theory ofperfect reconstsuction cosine-modulated filter banks is applied to design transmultiplexersystems for DWMT based multicarrier systems. The effects of different desib!parameters are studied for optimized filter banks. Time domain equalizers are suggestedas a solution for stationary communication channels and system performance is analyzedfor different values of the sibma1 to noise ratio (SNR).
