Abstract : A two-dimensional inverse scattering problem is set up. Previous inverse methods are in-troduced. A method based on the genetic algorithm and finitedifference time-domain solutionof Maxwell's equations is developed. Various two-dimensional crossover methods are examinedand the results compared to those of traditional one-point crossovers. The algorithm's perfor-mance as a function of scatterer size, shape, and position is studied. The effects of measurementnoise, multiple scatterers, and anisotropy are also included.
