Abstract	:	Hierarchical multiresolution databases are a key component in simulation applicationswhere a terrain surface must be represented. The generation of such digital terrain modelsgenerally involves transforming a set of elevation d u e s into an efficient and accuratepolygonal model, via triangulation. Concepts for the application of wavelet filtering to terraindata sets are considered and methods of integrating a wavelet-filering scheme into thetriangulation process are presented. The wavelet analysis features of analysis according toscale and tunable filtering are emphasized.
