Abstract	:	Directory service, serving as a network database, contains a variety ofinformation. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) defines a protocol to provideuniform access to Internet directories, which is called the Lightweight Directory AccessProtocol (LDAP). LDAP does not define broadcasting or multicasting. The onlycommunication method is unicasting via Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). Thetraditional way to find an LDAP service is to require the LDAP host's IP address, domainname, or distinguished name. There is a faster and more convenient method to locateservices on the Internet. This thesis suggests taking advantage of another IETF standardstrack - Service Location Protocol (SLP).
