Abstract

The system (Fel,V,,S3Al was studied by means of measurements ofmagnetization, electrical resistivity, and Hail effect as a function of composition, temperature, magnetic field, and hydrostatic pressure. We conclude that the system ismagnetically inactive at the composition x=1/3 in (Fel_xVx)3AI. For values of x<1/3,the system is found to be composed of clusters of 9 magnetic Fe atoms coupledtogether ferromagnetically. The magnetic coupling is of an indirect nature due to thelarge distances between the Fe atoms. The application of pressure was found tochange the Curie-Weiss temperature in a manner consistent with an RKKY typeinteraction. The magnetic coupling was found to be weak as compared to otherindirectly coupled, isolated moment systems; such as, Mn atoms dissolved.....-....,....-...,..tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
