Abstract : Tkaditional design rules for cellular networks are not directly applicable toCDMA networks where inter-cell interference is not mitigated by cell placement andcareful fresuency planning. For transmission quality requirements, a minimum signalto interference ratio must be achieved. The base station location, its pilobsignalpower (which determines the size of the cell), and the transmission power of themobiles, aU affect the received signal to interference ratio. In addition, because of theneed for power control in CDMA networks, large cells can cause a lot of interferenceto adjacent small cells posing another constraint to design.
