Abstract : It has become increasingly clear over the past few decades that some form ofalternative energy is needed to replace the traditional fossil fuels. I briefly discuss a fewof the possible alternative sources. why solar energy is one of the more promising ones,give a short history of the development of the solar cell, and explain the motivations forresearch into polymer - inorganic composite solar cells. An introduction to conductingand semiconducting polymers. as well as the basics of polymer solar cell operation, isgiven.I present experimental results on the variation of several parameters such aspolymer thickness.
