Abstract : I describe the design and use of a near-field scanning microwave microscopeto make quantitative measurements of sample properties, such as sheet resistanceand permittivity. The system consists of a resonator contained in a coaxial ca-ble, terminated at one end with an open-ended coaxid probe. When a sampleis brought near the probe tip, the resonant frequency and cpality factor are per-turbed depending on the local properties of the sample. The spatial resolutiondepends on the diameter of the probe's center conductor, which can be in therange 1-500 p.
