Abstract	:	This thesis describes a research agenda that applies principles from Organization The-ory to Uultiagent Systems. The need for a large-scale multiugent system in a dynamicenvironment motivates an architecture with localized recorlfigurat ions for bottlenecks.for Loss of resources, and for domain-dependent needs. The first hypothesis of this re-search is that distributed services allocated according to the domain-dependent levelsof a multiagent organization will scale better than existing methods for distributedresource management in a dyrlamic environment. Given a system implemerlted withthis hypothesis in mind. its scalability in reorganizing a nlultiagent system will bedemonstrated using contests designed to compare its performance with traditionalapproaches. A second hypothesis is that rational reorganizations can be effectivelyand efFiciently achieved using decision-theoretic models of a small set of organiza-tional structural dimensions.
