Abstract : Novel cyanide bridged lanthanide-transition metal arrays were prepared throughmetathesis reactions between LnCI, (Ln = Eu, Yb) and L~J~~(CN)~ (A = [C, NH,'; M =Ni, Pt)) at 1 :2 molar ratio in DMF. Two-dimensional complexesK@MF,Ln~(CN)4], , were obtained that consisted of infinite layers of puckeredsheets and interstitial K,w(CN)4O. Cyanide groups tram to each other in @M(cNIJ'-senre as bridges between Ln and M. A three-dimensional complex(NHJ)@MF)4Yb[Pt(W4]]2 was obtained when &[Pt(CN)J was replaced by(NH4),[pt(CN)4 1. It consists of Infinite paraIIeI co Iumns bundIed through hydrogen bondnetworks between NEI: and non-bridging CN ligands. Cyanide groups cis to each otherm [P~(CN),]~- serve as bridging groups. This compIex is the first example m whichLn(III) is coordinated to four w(CN)4~2- groups.The small but polar 40 exerts strong repdsive force on ~ ( C N ) ~ ] ' and forces itinto adjacent coordination sites, resulting m either a zigzag chain or a "stairway-like"army.
