Abstract	:	The ARROW (Anti~esonant Reiectzng Optical Waveguide) waveguide is a basiccomponent of integrated opticol circuits. In this thesis, multi-la yer A RROU: planarwaveguide is studied for the purpose oj enhancing tire evanescent field in loul-indcmedia. This leads to enhancing the sensitivity of optical detection 2n the louiindermedia. We have analyzed this stncture using water as tlre iou~inder superstrateand investigated diflerent aspects which include a study o j the poiak-ation proper-ties. sensitivity and coupling loss using endfire ezcitation. The sensiiirn'ty of opticaldetection atid power enhancement of tlre evanescent field in the low-indez super-strate o/ the multi-layer ARROW waveguide is suficaently increased as tlre tire corethickness of the multi-layer ARROW waveguide is decreased.
