Abstract	:	Skin tern- (ST) retrievals are derived h m Geostationary OperationalEnvironmental Satellite (GOES) data Retrievals fiom the GOES-8 Imager and Sounderinstruments are inter-compared in order to study the effects of the spatia.1 resolution andcaliiration differences. Single-pixel resolution retrievals h m both instruments werefound to contain significant striping errors. The 3x3-pixel averaged Imager product hadrelatively small striping errors and maintained more small-scale naturaI variations thanthe Sounder 3x3 product Averaging (3x3) reduced the standard deviation of ST across adomain by approximately 0.5 K. Correlation coefficients between Imager and Sounderproducts were found to be greater than 0.99. Comparisons of GOES retrievals to groundtruth radiometric data were difficult to interpret because of diierences in footprint sizeand viewing angle, but did reveat correlation coefficients greater than 0.98.
