Abstract	:	New high-resolution sensors produce very large data sets and associatedimages requiring large bandwidths or extended times to transmit. Othertechniques have been proposed to compress and sort an image to send the mostsignificant portions of the image first, allowing the user to choose the amount ofcompression applied based on transmission time; but they transmit the image asa whole.Many users are interested in only portions of the image. This case is betterserved by a transmission method with capabilities to browse the image at lowresolution to first pick the portion of interest, followed by transmission of only theportion of interest.
