Abstract	:	Quantization includes scalar quantization (SQ) and vector quantization (VQ). Bothof them are methods for lossy compression. Theoretically, VQ performs better than SQ.Residual vector quantization (RVQ), also called multi-stage VQ or cascaded VQ, is avaluable technique in speech and image coding applications. It divides the vector quan-tization process into successive stages. Each stage quantizes the residual vector &om theprevious stage and passes the new residual vector to its next stage.Rate-distortion adaptive residual vector quantization (RDADRVQ) changes the codingrule of the RVQ.
