Abstract : In 1953, Pierce developed the Coupled Mode Theory utilizing the concept of asingle four port device called a transducer. The transducer serves as a region for linearcoupling of two uncoupled modes or amplitudes incident on the transducer. It is thenpossible to get two sets of "coupling" equations corn which to generate a simple powerrelation between the two modes and show how they interact with distance. Applicationof this theory to a traveling wave tube affords an elegant, simple, and understandablemeans of generating the determinand equation using power considerations instead of themore complicated circuit analysis model. It becomes apparent that this concept ofcoupled modes can be applied to many aspects of electromagnetics where coupling overdistance and time takes place...,....-...,..tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
