Abstract : The present research is an experimental study of subcooled flow boiling behaviorof plain and microporous-coated flat surfaces in pure FC-73. Two I cm I cm squarecopper surfaces. one highly polished and one microporous-coated. are intended tosimulate microelectronic chips. The two heaters were flush-mounted into the bottom of a12.7 rnm square. lexan channel with flow parallel to the heater surfaces. The channel isoriented horizontally and the heater surfaces faced upward. Under increasing heat flusconditions. testing was performed for flow velocities ranging From 0.5 to 1 rn/s and pureliquid subcooling levels from 4 to 20 K. The results showed that both surfaces' nucleateflow boiling curves collapsed to one line showing their insensitivitv to flow velocity andsubcooling.
