Abstract : Turbo Codes, a class of parallel concatenated convolutional codes, have recently beenshown to reach within a few tenths of a decibel of the capacity of a digital communicationchannel. Analysis of these codes has proven difficult since they use large interleaven andsub-optimal iterative decoding procedures. Bounds exist for ideal conditions, but they areonly useful for moderate to large signal-tenoise ratio (SNR). Monte Carlo simulation mustbe used for small to moderate SNR, but it becomes prohibitively complex as the SNRincreases. In this thesis, application of the tools of Importance Sampling and Error EventSimulation are applied to concatenated codes to reduce simulation time. An algorithmfor computing the weight enumerator function of a concatenated code is presented.
