Abstract : Equalizers are used to combat inter symbol interference (ISI). Adaptive equalizersare either sgrnbol spaced or fractionally spaced. Fractionally spaced equalizers offermrmg advantages over Symbol spaced equalizers. The most well known and widelyw e d algorithm to adapt the tap weights of M e FSEs is the ubiquitow Least MeanSquares (LhIS) algorithm. More recently other algorithms have been presented inthe literature which use a more general error criteria to adapt the tap weights of theadaptive filters. The Lecwt Mean Mixed Nonn (LhdMN) family of algon'thms hasbeen found to yield improved performance over the LMS algorithm in cettazn cues.In the first part of this work we consider the we of three dtfferent algorithms bornthe family of LiClhIN algorithm to adapt the fractionally spaced decision feedbackequalizer (LIFE).
