Abstract : At a cocktail party, we can selectively attend to a single voice and filter out all theother acoustical interferences. This perceptual ability has motivated the emergence of anew field of study known as computational auditory scene analysis (CASA) which aimsto build speech separation systems that incorporate principles of auditory organization. The psychological process of figure-ground segregation suggests that the target signalshould be segregated as foreground while the remaining stimuli are treated asbackground. Accordingly, the computational goal of CASA should be to estimate an idealtime-frequency (T-F) binary mask,....-...,..tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
