Abstract : Thin films are of importance in optical, electrical, magnetic, chemical,mechanical and thermal applications. Electroless plating allows a conducting ornon-conducting substrate to be coated with a metallic film whose thckness isdependent on bath conditions and total plating duration. In our study, a varietyof powdered substrates including magnesium oxide, mesocarbon microbeadcarbon (MCMB), copper, silicon and tin oxide were coated with thin filmsprepared by either an electroless polyol process, which involves the use ofglycol or an aqueous electroless process. Tin, copper or nickel baths wereprepared.All of the prepared materials were evaluated as potential negativeelectrode materials for Li-ion batteries and a Cu3Sn material was evaluated as a....-...,..tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
