Abstract : The discussion of disordered systems such as the diluted antiferromagnet in afield (DAFF) is highly controversial. Classical approaches like the renormalizationgroup lead to contradictory results. This thesis presents alternative methods for theunderstanding of the low temperature regime of the DAFF. The results help to identifymisunderstandings and misleading assumptions in the recent research literatureThe phase diagram of the DAFF ground state is established by a Bethe latticemean-field theory and exact simulations of the ground state in three dimensions. Byintroducing an appropriate order parameter for the ground state, it is found that theDAFF exhibits three different phases. This stands in contrast to the ground stateof the 3d Random Field Ising Model (RFIM) which exhibits two different phases, although the RFIM and the DAFF are supposed to be in the same universality class. The mean-field theory phase diagram is derived by a new technique for the Bethelattice which can also be applied to other systems. The ground state simulations are.-...,..tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
