Abstract : Gain is what has made the transistor the primary component of the electronic revolution.The miniaturization of the transistor and its incorporation into integrated circuits spurredthe electronic and later the computer revolutions. High power and high frequencycircuits are especially demanding of high-gain elements. Although CMOS technologyhas made great progress, the microelectronics champion of gain is still the BipolarJunction Transistor (BJT). The achievable gain using a BJT as measured by devicetransconductance per unit current is limited to l/kT, or approximately 40V'.The rapid growth of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) in the past severaldecades has led to many novel devices.
