Abstract : Thc subject of the present work is a parillel plate heat sink that is designed so thatthe airtlow impinges' at the fin tips and exhausts over the two open-side faces. This typeof design attempts to achieve an airtlow direction that is substantially opposite to the heatflow direction within the fins so as to exploit the greater heat transfer effectiveness ofcounter flow heat exchange. A model of the heat sink was developed with the assumptionof airflow from the tin tips to the fin base. This simplified model was used to identifyinitial heat sink geometry to cool LSI packaps.
