Abstract
:
Rigid-rod linkers varying in length were synthesized and used to bind sensitizingchromophores to the surface of TiOz (anatase) and of Zr02 nanoparticle thin films. Thelinkers were made of p-phenyleneethynylene (EPh), bridges carrying two COORanchoring groups at the end, and were caped with either Ru(I1) polypyridyl complexes ororganic chromophores, such as pyrene, anthracene, and azulene.The Ru(I1)-based and pyrene-based rigid-rod dye molecules did bind strongly (Kad- lo5 M-') with high surface coverages (r - mol/cm2) on the nanostructured Zr02...,..tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
