Abstract	:	My Ph.D. studies were supported in part by a fellowship offered by Analog Devices for the aca-demic years 2000 and 2001 and from the NSF KDI grant BCS-9980091 and ITR grant 0205477,as research-assistantships for the calendar years of 2002 and 2003. The support of my family,friends, co-workers, and especially my fiance Julianna, has made the completion of this work a re-ality. The pottery assembly system reflects discussions with a diverse group of people from severaldisciplines including Applied Math : David Mumford, Archaeology : Martha Sharp Joukowsky,and Engineering : David Cooper, and Benjamin Kimia. Some programming and significant creativeinput was provided by Jasper Speicher with regard to the interface design of the presented sculptingsystem.
