Abstract	:	This dissertation is dedicated to the design and development of a prototype of aPermanent Magnet (PM) Modular Linear Motor (MLM) drive system. Such a systemoffers great advantage in terms of flexibility and reusability of the drive, but the modularconcept requires redesign of the power electronics section and the control architecture. Anovel solution has been proposed to preserve the concept of modularity for the MLMdrive system. Speed and current control for a modular drive has been successfullydesigned and tested on the prototype unit. Another major contribution of the dissertationis the design of a sensorless control solution for modular linear motor drive system.
