Abstract	:	This dissertation presents an approach for exploring and modeling ecologicalinvasion across an estuary's intertidal habitat. Aerial photographs have been regularlyacquired with high precision mapping cameras (frame cameras) in Washington Statesince the 1940s, and this historic record provides an unparalleled record of ecologicalpattern and change on Willapa Bay, WA. The colonization of Willapa Bay's tideflats byan invasive grass, Spavtina alternij7ora (Spavtina), has been the subject of heated debateand controversy for nearly two decades, as it rapidly spread across the bay convertingopen intertidal habitat to near supratidal levels.
