Abstract : Current magnetic recording technology, employing a longitudinally orientedrecording layer, is facing a superparamagnetic limit that will severely impede furtherrapid increase in density. This makes perpendicular recording more attractive owing tothe smaller impact of thermal fluctuations on a grain's thermal stability.
