Abstract : At present, there is considerable interest in the interaction of intense electromagneticradiation with quantum semiconductor superlattice - semiconductor structures withchemical composition periodically and artificially altered on the nanometer scale.The energy spectrum of charge carriers splits in the superlattice potential into a set ofallowed and forbidden narrow minibands (with widths 10- 100meV) andconsequently superlattices possess nonlinear properties in terahertz electromagneticfields. We have considered self-consistent nonlinear electrodynamics of a quantumsuperlattice and a resonant structure that contains a superlattice. We have proposed afrequency-selective detector based on lateral superlattice with a built-in resonator.We have shown the possibility of terahertz radiation generation due to the effectiveBloch oscillation excitation in one-dimensional superlattice in the self-inducedtransparency regime with low-frequency (GHz) pumping.
