There are too many people who deserve recognition for helping me along this path. Myformal education has benefited from excellent teachers, mentors and friends from the beginning.In elementary school, I had a string of caring and quality teachers: Mrs. Cody,Mrs. Zinnegar, and Mrs. Decker remain foremost in my memory. In junior high, Al Baldwin,my first full-time science teacher, taught me the wonders of the scientific process. Inhigh school, John Friend of AP chemistry, Kathy Flaccus of chemistry and biology, andKim Holland of AP english were excellent teachers and friends. My graduate career hasbeen blessed by some of the best scientists and professors imaginable. In particular, AlfredMcEwen, Jay Melosh, Randy Richardson, Bob Strom, John Lewis, and a whole slew ofothers have challenged me and excited my curiosity at every turn. Laszlo Keszthelyi, andZibi Turtle, as well, have been wonderful scientific mentors, constantly testing the limits ofmy understanding and providing timely course changes. Special thanks goes to my advisor,Alfred McEwen, for offering me the undergraduate job that hooked me into this field, forhis patience, support, and guidance in my many research projects, and for allowing me toexplore the many aspects of planetary science.One cannot complete a quest of this magnitude without friends, and I have more thanmy fair share.
