Abstract : China has experienced rapid economic growth for the last two decades since thepost-1978 economic reform. With its rising importance in the world's economy, energyand environmental affairs, and global concern with climate change, it is important forboth China's and global decision makers to understand energy demand behavior andassociated carbon emissions in the Chinese economic growth. For the purpose we set upan input-output framework and econometric translog function model, to analyze and toexplain the reduction of energy intensity and carbon emission intensity, and thesubstitution possibilities of energy inputs, as well as "economic instrument" especiallyenvironmental tax effect on energy demand and related carbon emissions.Chapter 1 provides a brief introduction to the dissertation. Chapter 2 mainly givesan introduction to the China's energy economy, energy-related environmental pollutantsand carbon emissions, as well as an overview of literature on modeling energy demandand carbon emissions in developing countries and China.In chapter 3, we develop a structural decomposition analysis for China's finalenergy consumption and carbon emissions changes based on Input-Output frameworkduring 1990-1995. The results indicate that the changes in direct energy intensity andfinal demand shift are the main factors for the reduction of total and sectional finalenergy intensity. The changes in direct carbon emission intensity and the technicalcoefficient matrix are the main factors in the reduction of total and sectional carbontested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
