Abstract	:	The purpose of this research is to explore a family of strategies using neuralnetworks for automating certain tasks of underwater exploration. Specifically, thisresearch explores the use of neural networks to create basic blocks for detectionand classification of a variety of sensor inputs as well as for vehicle control inmarine settings. This body of work can then be used to implement fullyautonomous detection and navigation systems for use in the marine environment.Several candidate neural network paradigms were evaluated for use in the researchand are discussed.
