Abstract : Machine vision has been very effective in recognizing subjects under controlledenvironments but unsuccessful dealing with illumination and pose variations. Repre-senting illumination using a low-dimensional linear subspace is frequently used toconduct illumination-invariant recognition. Using a set of 7,258 global spectral ir-radiance functions measured at Boulder, Colorado, the largest known so far, linearmodels are built to compare with the seminar study of Judd et al. over visible rangeand with MODTRAN generated global irradiance spectra over near-infrared range.A database of 223 materials is also used to analyze the impact of the Boulder spectralvariability on material discriminability.tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
