Abstract : Multispectral laser sensing is a growing research area with applications inroboticlmachine vision, environmental monitoring, military remote (stand-off) sensing,and medical imaging and diagnostics. Lasers of diverse wavelengths beyond the humanvisible spectrum can be used to acquire object spectral signatures, i.e. "colors" that are farmore distinctive and informative than the object natural emission. 7-1 near-IR and 4-1mid-IR imaging sensing systems using semiconductor lasers have been developed in thisresearch. Unlike the conventional one-transmitterlone-receiver design, the system isbased on the scalable network concept, in which multiple transmitters and receivers canbe deployed with arbitrary any-to-any connectivity to allow NxM information scalingrather than linear N scaling. For signaling, the code-division-multiple-access architecturewas used to allow ease of scaling as well as robustness against interference. Thewavelength-division-multiplexing technique was used to combine the multispectralbeams. An optical galvanometric scanner was used to generate 2D rasters on the target.
