Abstract	:	Remote Manipulator Systems (RMS) aboard the International Space Station and theSpace Shuttle assist in payload management, crew movement, retrieval of objects fromspace, and station construction. Safe, accurate, and efficient use of the robot arm requiresaccurate interpretation of visual cues (visual/spatial perception), an awareness of theposition of the arm relative to structures (situation awareness), and appropriate controllerinputs (psychomotor control). Errors in RMS operation can be catastrophic, leading tohuge monetary losses or loss of life.Generic Robotics Training (GRT) uses the Basic Operational Robotics InstructionalSystem (BORIS) graphics simulator to teach basic robotics concepts and skills that aretransferable to any of the on-orbit RMS systems.
