Abstract	:	The variability of the atmospheric water budget of the Gulf of Mexico - CaribbeanSea basins is investigated for six (6) monthly samples over a 16-month period at a 3-month interval. The main scientific objective is to determine how water balance isachieved for an oceanic basin at regional-seasonal scales, focusing on the degree to whichthe water vapor and condensate storage terms contribute to water balance within aconvective ocean regime. This latter question was first raised by Peixoto (1973) andposed in a climatic context by Peixoto and Oort in their seminal 1992 text, Physics ofClimate, but has never been comprehensively answered over extended time periods.As part of this research, a satellite-only, multi-algorithm retrieval methodology isdeveloped which obtains the atmospheric water budget over an open ocean domain. Thealgorithm requires radiance.
