Abstract
:
Batteries and &el cells are widely used to generate electrical energy, especially inrecent applications to electric and hybrid vehicles. To simulate a porous electrode forbatteries and he1 cells, macro-homogeneous models are often employed in which theactual morp ho logy oft he electrode is ignored, thereby making computations much easier.However, such models are based on the volume-averaging technique, which smears themicroscopically cornp lex interfacial structures and has to invoke empirical correlationsfor describing the effective transport properties in a multiphase system.In this thesis, a methodology is developed to achieve a description on the porelevel based on direct numerical simulation (DNS) method. The DNS solves the accuratepoint-wise conservation equations.
