Abstract	:	In this thesis, we focus on the Internet topology constructed at the AS-level. The objectiveof this thesis is to tackle the problem of "modeling" the AS-level Internet topology. To expressthis broad topic in more concrete terms, we first consider the following three complementary stepstowards the goal of "modeling" the Internet topology in general.Discovery: Access to a reasonably accurate picture of the Internet connectivity is a pre-requisite condition for conducting any Internet topology related research. However, due tomounting security concerns and competitive ISP market conditions, public access to variousdata sets on network connectivity has been scarce or almost non-existent. As a result. theresearch community has been dependent on a rather limited pool of public data sets whosequality and completeness have not been checked. The objective of the first step is thus tocarefully revisit the quality of the public data sets, and to develop a methodology for captur-ing a representative snapshot of the Internet topology if the present data sets turn out to be.
