Abstract : The greatest restriction to practical use of electric and hybrid electric vehicles(EVs and HEVs) is the size, weight and cost of the batteries plus their associatedequipment. Of all the types of presently feasible batteries, lithium ion (Li-Ion) has thehighest energy density (up to 125 Whkg). However, Li-Ion also has a volatile chemistry, and requires a very complex electronic battery management system (BMS) to prevent acatastrophic explosion. In fact, the size, weight and cost of the BMS has been one of themajor determents to the use of Li-Ion in EVs and HEVs.To make Li-Ion a more practical choice, this research has concentrated ondeveloping new measurement and.
