Abstract	:	Much of the research in AI planning deals with fmding efficient algorithms forplanning. However, most of this research concentrated on action-based planning ratherthan on HTN planning. On the other hand, applied work in A1 planning has typicallyfavored approaches based on hierarchical decomposition rather than action-basedtechniques,This dissertation presents GraphHTN, a new algorithm for HTN planning thatcombines the Graphplan approach, one of the most efficient approaches for action-based planning, with HTN-style problem reduction. GraphHTN can be classified as adisjunctive planner, since prior to its search phase GraphHTN refines the planningproblem without splitting the search space. The result of these refinements is encoded intwo disjunctive data structures:The planning graph, a data structure that was originally developed for theGraphplan planner..
