Abstract : Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) is a standard computer applicationthat molecular biologists use to search for sequence similarity in genomic databases.This thesis describes a FPGA-based hardware implementation of the BLAST application.The main objective of this document is to explore the feasibility of using this newtechnology to realize a scalable, portable and cost-effective FPGA-based acceleratorfor the BLAST Algorithm.
