Abstract : It is believed that Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), such as black holes, present anenvironment where violent interactions can give rise to protons, gamma rays, andneutrinos with energy in and above the petaelectron-volt (1015 eV) range. The Radio IceCherenkov Experiment (RICE) is geared towards detecting ultra-high energy (UHE)electron neutrinos within this range of energy. Ideally scientists could hunt for AGN byobserving the trajectory of any of these particles but Cosmic Microwave Background(CMB) photons that permeate the universe present a medium too dense for non-localsources of protons and gamma rays to penetrate [1].
