Abstract : 3-D Micro-Electromagnetic Radio Frequency System (3D-MBRFS) is a copperwith air-core, rectangular coax interconnection system. A rectangular coax to microstriptransition of 3D-MBRFS is examined in this study. Ansoft's High Frequency StructureSimulator (HFSS) was used to model the performance of the transition. After validatingthe accuracy of HFSS with measured data from known structures, the equivalent circuit isderived, and tuning methods identified to achieve optimum design for specifiedrequirements. The goal is match of 25 dB or better at 37 GHz. Two different lumpedelement matching networks were deigned to meet the requirement: one design realizedwithin the microstrip, and an optional design realized within the rectangular coax..
