Abstract	:	In modern telecommunications systems, glass fibers transport optical signalsover thousands of kilometers with little loss or signal distortion. Although thesefibers support a large bandwidth, the data rates are typically limited by the supportingelectronics that produce, receive, and process the optical signals.
