Abstract : The forces on the spine in manual lifting tasks are important to the estimationof occurrence of low-back injury. Electromyography (EMG) signals and spinal forcesin trunk muscles during motion of the human body can be used to represent thedynamics of muscular activities. Yet spinal forces can not be measured directly, andEMG signals are often difficult to measure in industry due to environmental hostilities.EMG waves, however, can be treated and analyzed as responses of a system that takeskinematics measurements and other auxiliary factors as inputs. By establishing thekinematics-EMG-force relationship using neural and fuzzy approaches, models forEMG and spinal force estimation are proposed.In order to identify and remove inputs that have little influence on the output.
