Abstract	:	The field of computer security has been the focus of many researchers in the past decade. The need formore secure networks is ever growing with the phenomenal growth of network-based applications in therecent years. Many methods and approaches have been devised to enhance the security of computers andnetworks.This dissertation focuses on three aspects of computer network security: (a) visualization of anomalies innetwork traffic, (b) a common platform for developing and testing anomaly detection algorithms, and (c)enhancing the performance of an existing clustering algorithm by implementing it as a hardware circuit forthe purpose of detecting anomalies in network traffic..
